The Meridian Residence is a series of interconnected pavilions set within a sculptured coastal landscape. Commissioned by a private family seeking a retreat that felt both rooted in its Scandinavian environment and globally refined, the project demanded an architecture of restraint and precision.
Discuss a Similar ProjectThe coastal site presented challenging constraints: extreme weather exposure, strict planning regulations protecting the shoreline, and the need to capture dramatic sea views while maintaining complete privacy from a nearby coastal path. The family also required four distinct living 'zones' — parent quarters, children's space, a creative studio, and communal areas — that could function independently or as one.
We resolved the brief through a pavilion strategy: five low-profile structures arranged around a sheltered central courtyard that opens toward the sea. Each pavilion is connected by glazed link corridors that blur the boundary between interior and exterior. Materials — raw concrete, larch timber, and locally quarried stone — were chosen for their ability to weather beautifully over time, becoming more beautiful as the site matures.
